I am pleased to announce the release of Volume 1: A Collection of Plays by yours truly.
As you probably know, part of my responsibilities here at Word of Life is to write & direct many of the dramas that we do at our camps and conferences. I write a broad range of skits, poems and readings but my favorite writing project by far is the 1-act play. It is the right length (usually 30-45 minutes) to fit inside of a typical camp/conference meeting or church service and has been very well received by our camp leadership and guests alike. A 1-act presents a unique set of creative challenges. It's a little like writing the pilot episode to a TV show in terms of plot construction. Characters must be introduced, developed and resolved in just over a half-hour plus, in our case, a moral or scriptural truth must be clearly communicated. It's a fun challenge, and 1-acts have been in pretty high demand as of late. I’ve written 27 of these 1-act productions to date. It’s been a personal goal of mine to compile some of my favorite 1-acts and have them published. It’s something that I’ve been pecking away at for about a year, and I’m happy to announce that the collection is ready for sale.

If you are involved in drama ministry at your church or some other setting, this collection is a tremendous resource for you. I built this tool with you in mind. I chose the big 6x9 inch size so that you could easily make copies for your actors. I included some gaping margins and because I know how much you’re going to want to make notes on the fly. Each script includes a cover page that has the premise (foundational scriptural truth upon which the script is based) and purpose (the communication objective) and a list of characters for easy reference. I have also included some of my own notes on each script, so you can have some insight into my thinking when I wrote each piece.
This has been a very fun and fulfilling project to work through, and I hope that you can benefit from it as well.
